Carl's Body Shop & Towing
The large glass panes of Carl’s Body Shop were Carl Hounshell’s window to the world – and life’s little mishaps. In 1932, he and his bride moved to Dayton where he first worked at Frigidaire until opening the now famous Carl’s Body Shop location. The neighborhood and its residents were his friends and his shop became an enduring landmark. Throughout the years Carl kept the business a family affair. His son – Jerry Hounshell – has worked 40 years with his father. Daughter, Virginia, began working there when she was just 10 years old. It was there that she eventually met her husband Tom, who worked in the body shop. Carl was still working 10-hour days when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He succumbed to the disease in 1988. The family was looking for someone to take over the established business, and so enters the new and current owner – Matt Miller. In 1989, there were only six employees and profit of $400,000 a year. Fast forward – 30 employees and $2 million in sales per year.

Very unprofessional. Car was supposed to be ready by Monday, kept reaching out to the body shop and they continued giving me the run around until the following Thursday when I had to personally call the body shop to get an update about repairs. Do not use their, “rental car service” which goes for $45 a day for some random old car. They do amazing body work but I will go somewhere else that is more professional.

My lift gate was replaced and now the rear washer does not work(no fluid) and the glass has many scratches and one deep one. The glass was dirty when I picked it up. I thought it was probably a grease pen but once I attempted to clean the glass I determined that it was a deep scratch.

I used Carl’s several years ago for another vehicle and was very disappointed in the both the process and the results. I thought enough time had transpired and I would give it another shot as it is conveniently close to my home. However, I was disappointed in the overall result

The “new” glass on lift gate has numerous scratches(some deep). The rear wiper no longer squirts fluid. It worked before the accident and now does not.

Concerning that most employees were maskless even when in close proximity to customers. The women working the front counter did attempt to cover but zero percent of the men tried to follow the law. I am immune compromised so this fact is important to me.

Repair needed adjustment. They lost one of my hubcaps. They claimed they would replace it but haven't been able to find one that matches.
