Repair Quality

I am satisfied with much of the repairs that were made. But, after I picked up my vehicle, I discovered one headlight was not working properly. I took my vehicle back to the body shop, but the manager would not repair it. I don’t understand this. Only one headlight was listed on the damage report, so the repair of the second headlight was not covered by insurance. He told me I would have to pay for the second headlight out of pocket! This makes no sense to me. There was significant damage to the front of my vehicle, and a long list of damages was written up. Why weren’t both headlights listed? I believe the person writing up the list of damages made an error, and the manager did not want to have to deal with the issue. Having both headlights working properly is a safety issue and very important to me. I also discovered very noticeable scrapes on the edge of the hood that had been missed during repairs. The scrapes looked white against the black paint on my vehicle. When I brought this to the manager’s attention, he told me the only thing he would do is use a black Sharpie on the scrapes to cover them, which is what he did! This was shocking to hear. Now I’m worried about the paint chipping and/or rust forming, which will be a problem for me in the future. If this happens, will Chesapeake Auto Body make the repairs at no charge? I felt uncomfortable telling the manager about other areas I was not satisfied with, due to his demeanor. He seemed bothered to hear any complaints, and unwilling to make things right to my satisfaction. It was nothing personal against him. I just wanted my vehicle whole after a truck hit it causing severe damage to it. It was a horrible experience for me, and I was left stranded with my two sons in Annapolis unable to easily get back home an hour and a half away. I didn’t have my vehicle for over a month. When I pointed out new scratches on my vehicle, the manager told me there was no way to know if they were new or not (suggesting I was lying), and even said that maybe one of my sons was to blame! How could one of my sons scratch my vehicle when it was in Annapolis for over a month? My sons don’t even drive! My vehicle was at the body shop for over a month and was scratched at some point. I know what scratches were already on my vehicle. The new scratches were very obvious to me, but the manager was unwilling to repair them. He did work on one scratch because it was not deep. The backseat area of my vehicle was left dirty (from muddy shoes?). There was dirt on areas and bits of clear plastic on the floor. I asked for my vehicle to be cleaned, and the manager had it vacuumed. I’m not sure why anyone needed to be in the backseats since the damage was to the front of my vehicle. When I was driving my vehicle home from the shop the first time, the Tire Pressure Warning dashboard symbol activated. I did not bring this to the manager’s attention.

Customer Service

When I talked to people on the phone, I had pleasant experiences talking to Patty, John, and the manager. When I called the last time to discuss issues I had with the condition of my vehicle, the woman who answered was curt to me. When I brought my vehicle back to the shop, the woman who sits at the front desk was not friendly at all to me. She wouldn’t even look up at me and did not greet me. No “hello” or “can I help you?” She treated me like I was a bother for bringing my vehicle back. When I gave her my name, she said she knew who I was and asked for my car key. I told her a receptionist usually greets a customer when she walks in, and that I was waiting for her to acknowledge me. She did not apologize to me. The receptionist is usually the first person a customer interacts with, so she/he sets the tone for the customer’s overall experience. I did not choose Chesapeake Auto Body (chosen by insurance company) to make the repairs to my vehicle. Based on my experience and customer service, I would not use this body shop again, and would not recommend this shop to anyone I know.
