I sent this replay to Matthew Helton, your adjuster.First, Hillside Collision Center did a fine job repairing my car. The submitted estimate was $1,864.60, of which I paid $1,000 and Liberty Mutual covered the balance via an EFT to me. However, upon picking up my car the other day, i learned that Hillside had charged an additional $497.32, which amount was submitted to Liberty Mutual. This, to me, has 2 negative effects: 1) my insurance rates, I suspect, will reflect this increase in your paying this additional coverage, and 2) I shopped around for bids before deciding on Hillside. Hillside, before Liberty Mutual got involved, would not even give me a quote. A neighboring repair shop, Glidden Auto Paint and Body, gave me an estimate of $1,968.47. When I talked with a claims person at Liberty Mutual, they arranged for a quote from Hillside, and the claims person told me that the repair would be lifetime from Hillside, The quote from Hillside was was $1,854.60. Glidden’s quote was $113.87 more than Glidden. Therefore, I decided to use Hillside. Was this a mistake? So, without knowledge that Hillside’s quote was only a guestimate, not a fixed number, I decided to take Liberty Mutual advice and go with Hillside. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed that Hillside did not stick to its estimate and that Liberty Mutual actually paid the additional $497.32. Is there anything that can be done? I feel like the consumer who is the loser in all this. Thank you for listening.
