The\nU.S. is seeing an all-time national high, with the average prices reaching over\n$5 per gallon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This uptick in prices has caused some people to fill up their\ntanks less regularly. AAA reported 50,787 out-of-gas calls in April of 2022,\nwhich is a 32% increase from April of 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although gas has become significantly more expensive, it can be\ndangerous to drive a car that is not fueled sufficiently. Consistently driving\na car while it\u2019s on empty can damage your vehicle, including fuel pump failure,\nclogged fuel filter, and harm to you and your passengers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is \u201cEmpty\u201d and why is it dangerous?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When your car is displaying that the tank is empty, this really\nmeans that you have reached the reserve level. This is the last 10%-15% of the\ntank\u2019s capacity. Inside your fuel tank is a pump that relies on gasoline to\nkeep it lubricated. Without ample gasoline, the pump risks overheating and\npremature failure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fuel tanks also tend to collect dirt and debris that ends up at\nthe bottom of the tank. While this isn\u2019t necessarily a problem, low gasoline\nlevels can cause this debris to enter the fuel pump and clog it. This can\ndecrease the rate at which gas goes to the engine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lastly, the most important thing to consider when driving on E\nis the potential danger you are subjecting yourself to. You don\u2019t want your car\nto stop in the wrong place and put you in harm&#8217;s way. If you do run out of\nfuel, turn on your hazards and do your best to pull over to a shoulder or safe\narea where you are less likely to cause an accident.&nbsp; Once you are in a safe area, call for\nassistance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, it\u2019s a personal decision but the risks of driving on empty can\nsometimes be more expensive than the gas itself, and saving a little money by\nnot filling up your tank as needed is not worth the risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have car issues?
