There should be a courtesy car to take you home when you drop off a car. I had to walk the two miles, and in winter at age 86, it wasn't easy.

When given a date and if they are not ready to begin work they should let you know. They could then call the day before when they are ready to begin working, that way you are able to have transportation if still drivable.
