The paint looks flawless, maybe even better than when I took delivery if the car. I also appreciated the pricing as it was about $100 cheaper than the body shop through the dealer.

The paint and body work itself seems pretty excellent. The communication was lackluster, since I received no reply from one email and was told multiple times that the car was in reassembly and would be done that day or the next, and that I'd get a call an hour before it was ready, then did not. I was in no rush - I was told and completely prepared for it to take quite a while, and that was fine - but once I was told it was almost done, it was bad that it wasn't and that this was repeated a few more times and went on for a month. Better to just not say anything than keep disappointing expectations. Then a door that had to be fixed was not done prior to paint (which is something you don't expect to get forgotten in a process requiring meticulous attention to detail), and 3 or 4 times I asked about that and got no response (one email not replied to and some phone calls where they were supposed to check and call back, but I wasn't called back). But reassembly seems to be the biggest issue of all. Upon picking up the car, the front passenger door wasn't put back together correctly so it was not opening from the inside. The back-up proximity warning sensor was not working, and the brake lights and rear turn signals were not working. I had to bring it back and have those fixed. Then, while doing routine maintenance, I found what looks like a scouring pad and a piece of sandpaper left in the engine bay where they could have caused problems. I found rubber trim not completely tucked back into the plastic trim on the driver's side A-pillar. The headliner was hanging down slightly where it meets the rear window glass, so that you could see the yellow foam at the top of the glass from behind the car. Along with debris, there is a yellow fuse that was left in the spare tire well that was not there before, and I don't know where it came from. A rubber boot and hose clamp going to an alternative fuel tank in the trunk were found so that the clamp was almost off and the boot wasn't on right. This is a system that should not have been touched at all for the purposes the car was there for. All of this makes one wonder about the rest of the reassembly and whether or not there will be more surprises or even safety issues down the road. I keep finding things. The windshield washer fluid that worked before does not spray now, and a headlight that didn't before now has condensation getting inside it. Don't really know if these were caused by anything that happened at the shop or not, but they weren't that way before and are parts that either were, or are connected to, parts that were removed and reassembled. I now realize a weatherstripping trim element is missing at the top of the windshield glass. I want to like San Jose Collision, I really do. I went there because of the good reviews I've read and the proximity to our home. In person, everything was pleasant. I'm very easygoing and patient, but I don't think I could recommend that anyone go there, and a family member that was wanting to send a car there for paint and heard about these things no longer wants to take her car there. I thought about leaving a negative online review, but so far have not, if for no other reason than the body work (filling of holes) and paint itself appears to be very well done.
