Late Sept 2022, my daughter was involved in a not-at-fault fender-bender in a high school parking lot. I brought the car in to (at that time) Shaffer Collision on 9/30 to be seen by Gary Frederick for an estimate - $4449.88. He said he wouldn't look for parts until it was in the shop, and that they couldn't get me in until 1/16/23. I scheduled, and gave him the insurance (Westfield) claim#. After about a week, Westfield said the repairs were too costly and wanted me to total the vehicle. Instead I went through my insurance (Cincinnati) and my agent evaluated the vehicle and approved the repairs. I informed Shaffer's of the new (Cincinnati) claim#. Gary also informed me that Shaffer's was being changed to Caliber. I asked if that was a good thing, and he responded, "It depends on who you ask." On 1/16/23 my daughter and I showed up at the shop. Gary appeared surprised to see us. He said all their customers had been contacted to let them know that the "new" Caliber facilities needed to updated and all costumers had been rescheduled. We had been missed because they thought the car had been totaled, even though we had the conversation and records of us now going though my Cincinnati insurance. Luckily, when I called up my agent early on MLK day, he answered and was able to talk with Gary to set things straight. However, Gary said we would need to be rescheduled for 3/8, which I did. As 3/8 approached, I stopped in to make sure things were progressing. Gary was not present, but instead another employee was there. He was able to locate my paperwork, but suggested that they would not be ready. Instead, they would probably ship the car to a different location. He said I would just need to sign some paperwork. On 3/8, my daughter and I dropped off the car, and I signed the paperwork for them to take it offsite to begin repairs. After a few days, I received a call from Gary saying I had to come and pick up the car - not because it was done, but because none of the other facilities would take the car to fix it. No one had tried to schedule another facility in the two months that went by. Gary said he would understand if I just took it elsewhere. I said I would stick with this shop to repair the car. So I rescheduled for the car to begin repairs on 4/17. As 4/17 approached, I checked in to make sure things would be ready, and Gary informed me that the facility wouldn't be ready until around June, but not a firm date. As June approached, I contacted Caliber and made a "firm" date of 6/17 to bring in the car to begin repairs. On 6/17, my daughter and I dropped off the car at the shop. Gary or the new "service" advisor Michael White can't find the paperwork, so I have to give them mine to make a copy. Gary informed us that the process would be "long" to fix. It involved replacing the rear passenger door and quarter panel, because both were dented. I received text updates every few days informing me repairs were going well. Gary calls on 7/5 saying he can't find parts, and says the texts are just "automated". He's done looking for parts. He says he can make it so the dented door opens and shuts, and charges me $67.88. The nice secretary who took my credit card was the only competent person in the front office. Neither Mike or Gary was "available" to talk to when I picked up the car, but I let her know what I would write for the survey. Total loss was written on my paperwork - that sums up this business.

The email updates were not nearly as helpful as the phone calls at each step. It was a process we did not understand, so it was very helpful to have calls at each step to update us on the process and the progress. It was also very helpful to get advice on the repair - to pursue insurance once we understood to the total cost. Encouraging us to do that really made us feel more comfortable, like we weren't pulling a fast one on you. Thank you for that honesty.
